This course provides a broad based introduction to the field of second and foreign language
teaching and learning. Taking a mainly historical perspective, this course outlines various developments in the social sciences over the past few decades
and shows the impact of
these developments on the field
of language education, mainly in North America
Geography, History and Citizenship Education
This course is designed for elementary school teachers and will provide knowledge of the
geographical regions and historical periods that are outlined in the Quebec Education Program.
This is not a history course nor is it a pedagogy course. This course outlines the Geography, History and Citizenship Program
in the Quebec Education Program.
As this course is required for teacher certification, the content is determined by the Quebec government’s Ministry of Education.
Ce cours de trois crédits porte sur les notions de base pour l’enseignement des composantes linguistiques (lexique, morphologie, syntaxe et sémantique) et discursive (de la phrase aux types de textes et de discours); sur l’apprentissage de la grammaire; et sur les composantes linguistiques des programmes d’études.
This undergraduate course will cover: selected theories, models, and concepts relevant to planning and reflecting upon educational practice and improvement. There will be an overview of development, learning, thinking, motivation, individual differences, etc., in relation to applications in classroom teaching and learning, the complementary role of counselors and psychologists, educational computing, and technology.
Educational Psychology
First Year Professional Seminar
Orientation to the culture and community of school and to teaching as a profession. Focus on the general functioning of schools and complexity of the teacher role. Competencies and working professional portfolios will be addressed.

Media, Technology, and Education
The aim of this course is to offer student-teachers (STs) opportunities to enhance their digital media literacies. Digital media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act with all forms of communication. Digital media literacies may include use of technological tools in terms of their material, social, political and educational values.
Communication in Education
This course will explore written and oral communication in Education
(in English), with an emphasis on strategies for identifying, analyzing and solving writing and
speaking problems. The course work is based on academic and professional communication in
education, with a particular focus on classroom communication
Linguistique Française
Le cours combinera des cours magistraux de nature théorique et historique, des travaux écrits en classe ou à la maison. La sémantique, l'alphabet phonétique international, les théories de Ferdinand Saussure, phonologie, les graphèmes et plus seront appris et devront être maitrisé.
Equity and Education
Introduction to and exploration of contemporary issues and theories about equity in education and society in Quebec/Canada from a range of perspectives, including the historical, political, social, and economic. Provides learning opportunities for future educators to critically reflect upon and engage with equity issues and concerns in relation to schooling, including the exploration of classroom resources and activities that foster anti-racism, anti-oppression, and intercultural approaches
Ideas essential for the development of a coherent educational theory and sound professional practice. Reflections on the nature of the person, of reality, of knowledge, and of value; the aims of education, the nature of the school and the curriculum, the roles and responsibilities of professional educators.

Semester 2
Instruction in Inclusive Schools
This undergraduate education course will focus on developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating effective learning programs for all students. Adapting curriculum and instruction for learners with varying abilities, learning styles, and needs will be examined. The course will address collaboration with students, families, and other educators (or stakeholders) in the instructional process as well as the application of adaptations at the classroom and school level for all students in inclusive schools.
Indigenous Education
An exploration of Indigenous knowledge and pedagogy, primarily in Canada but also world-wide. Consideration of the diverse social, cultural, linguistic, political, and pedagogical histories of Indigenous communities. Examines how a teacher’s professional identity and practice can be influenced by an understanding of Indigenous knowledge and worldviews.
Elementary School Science 1
Elementary School Science is a course that has been specifically designed for prospective elementary school teachers who will teach several subjects including science. It focuses on the development of science knowledge and understanding, as well as research-based instructional practices for teaching science. Objectives, philosophy, selection and organization of science teaching methods and materials will also be addressed, in preparation for actual classroom use. In this way, it mirrors the mathematics course in which you may also be enrolled this semester.
L2 Learning in Classroom Settings
This course provides an introduction to theory and research in second language acquisition (SLA). It is designed to help students understand the processes, developmental patterns and factors contributing to SLA so that the students will be prepared to evaluate and develop teaching materials and procedures in light of this understanding
The first of two courses specially designed for elementary school pre-service teachers. Focused on key areas of what teachers need to know and be able to do to support students' development of mathematical understanding (focus on mathematics content, students' reasoning, and pedagogy). Provides insight and understanding of the Quebec elementary mathematics program.

Elementary School Science 2 PIF
Elementary School Science est un cours qui a été spécialement conçu pour les futurs enseignants de l'école primaire qui enseigneront plusieurs matières, dont les sciences. Il met l'accent sur le développement des connaissances et de la compréhension des sciences, ainsi que sur les pratiques pédagogiques fondées sur la recherche pour l'enseignement des sciences. Les objectifs, la philosophie, la sélection et l'organisation des méthodes et du matériel d'enseignement des sciences seront également abordés, en vue d'une utilisation réelle en classe. En ce sens, il reflète le cours de mathématiques auquel vous êtes peut-être également inscrit ce semestre.
Enseignement du français langue seconde par immersion
Ce cours a tout d’abord pour but d’outiller les futurs enseignants en immersion française à tirer profit des thèmes et contenus
disciplinaires pour valoriser la langue française. Ce cours permettra de comprendre l’importance à accorder au processus d’interaction
orale, élément clé de l’apprentissage et du développement de la conscience métalinguistique des élèves.
English Language Arts
Course Description In this course, with reference to the Quebec Education Program (QEP), we will explore different content, skills and processes for teaching and learning Language Arts. We will critically interrogate research and theory as it pertains to language and literacy development. We will learn about and apply different approaches to language arts education in the context of pre-school and elementary classrooms. The course will provide opportunities for you to deepen your appreciation for literature and literacy, and explore and cultivate techniques for aligning language arts pedagogy, curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Social Studies Pedagogy
This course will consider the politics, pedagogy, and mechanics of teaching social studies at the
elementary level. In the first half of the course, we will compare and contrast traditional and more
current, research-based approaches to teaching social studies, and we will think broadly about the
implications of being a social studies teacher, as well as teaching history, geography, and citizenship
education in the Canadian and Quebec context at the current moment. In the second half of the course,
we will focus in on social studies pedagogy, exploring lesson planning, reverse design unit planning,
comprehensive assessment as a strategy for instructional design, and critical inquiry as pedagogical
method.
Kindergarten Classroom Pedagogy
Ce cours vise à fournir une orientation sur le caractère unique de la classe de
maternelle de 4 et 5 ans par l'intégration du curriculum et des domaines de
développement d'une manière appropriée au niveau de l'âge de l'enfant d'âge
préscolaire.
