Responsability poster

Competency 6

This poster shows goal is to show that eight students have a different responsibility each week.

Whether it was cleaning up after snack time or passing the agendas around at the end of the day, the students were introduced to the concepts of responsibility and autonomy through it. The tasks and the "assigned" child would change every week, so they did not have the same responsibility all the time and everyone would try different things. I found it very interesting because it is crucial in kindergarten to teach students the importance of helping others and being "reliable". I particularly liked how the chart always displayed on the wall, making sure that the children cannot forget about their "responsibilities". It engages all of the students and creates a harmonious classroom that puts forth mutual aid. It is also a great tool, because I believed it helped me with managing the students when it was time to work. The children knew what they had to do and they were so happy to have a job!

02 Artifact

Token / Reward System

This is the reward/token system from my classroom. Each student had a small box with their numbers on it (each student was assigned a number), to collect tokens. Students earn tokens for various things like cleaning up after themselves, actively participating in activities/lessons, and more. With these tokens, they can purchase items such as stickers, toys or even more like activities such as having a lunch at McDonald's with the teacher! I believe it is an excellent way to encourage students to be more responsible in class! Moreover, it also teaches them the value of money and working hard and well towards something they want. It was very useful in my class to make sure that students were engaged at all times ( a little reminder of the tokens would straightened any bad behavior) and enjoyed learning/enjoyed participating in our lessons.

"Make a fish" project!

This is a project that my student teacher friend in my class and I did with our students: we made cute fishes to decorate our class! We came up with this idea and planned everything for it by ourselves. The theme in our classroom that week was "ocean animals!" Thus, we thought that it would be nice to create some colorful fish to decorate our room. This activity aimed to enhance our students' fine motor skills through art, by painting, coloring, cutting, gluing, and folding. These are very important in kindergarten. Additionally, we wanted to encourage our students creativity, so we let them choose the colors, the shape of the eyes of the fish, the size of the mouth, etc. We loved how each fish turned out to be very unique! In many ways, it funnily reflected the personalities of our students!
