Teaching Philosophy

Camille Raymond

My goal as a teacher is to be a resourceful and trustful adult figure that creates a safe and caring bond between they and their students to allow for a safe learning environment. I love doing so,  by simply talking with my students and learning about who they are. I want my learners to feel comfortable with me, and I want them to know that no matter what, I am there to support them. Hence, I want my scholars to see me as a kind, and respectful teacher that only wants what is best for them. This main goal has been a desire for me since the day I decided to go into teaching. As educators, we are shaping the youth of tomorrow and I want to make sure that my students leave my classroom as good individuals with all the tools they need to succeed.

As an elementary school professor, it is important for me to teach and convey the values of acceptance, and openness. Students learn way more when they feel like they can be who they truly are in the classroom without being judged for it. Any disrespect toward anyone will not be tolerated in my homeroom. Moreover, I wish to teach learners about respect and the value of mutual aid between peers. Other than at school, there is not a plurality of places where kids from different backgrounds have the opportunity to learn from one another, therefore as an educator we need to take this into our advantage! I want to celebrate each other's differences! Why not talk about them, instead of hiding them! Moreover, in my class, we will talk about different cultures, because we can learn a lot from all of them.  I value diversity and I desire for my students to do as well. Hopefully,  I will make a positive change in my learners life.

It is imperative for me that all of my students feel comfortable being who they are and that they feel at home whenever they enter our homeroom. As an educator, I want to address my scholars overall social, emotive, academic, and physical need, and by doing so I will increase their desire of learning. I will do so by caring about my students, like making sure they are feeling well in the morning, asking them questions, giving them the help they need, etc. I will also promote the idea of fun, creativity and humour in the class because learning should not always be serious! For instance, I love incorporating art into my activities. If students have to write a story, why not make it into a book, where they can illustrate the images! Or why not make a song out of it!

I will also treat my class as a community; therefore, by encouraging them to work collaboratively. Hence, working as a unity, because helping and working with each other, will help my scholars gain new skills that will be beneficial for them growing up. Moreover, it can be incredibly advantageous for students to work together as they can bounce their ideas and knowledge with one another!

I love teaching, it’s my passion hence I believe that through my passion, some of my scholars will feel encouraged to learn.

Reflection

To write my educational philosophy, I dug through my experience as a student. For instance, I was a very shy as a child... I would never ask questions because I was scared of being judged. I do not want this kind of environment in my class. I also wrote my philosophy by thinking of my teaching experience. Hence, I concluded that what truly impacted my teaching was all of these; openness, creativity, teamwork, and respect.
