First Field Experience

Here are a few artifacts from my first ever Field Experience

Context : 3 weeks of observation in 3 different classes; Grade 5 french immersion classroom, Grade 6 French immersion classroom, Grade 6 English classroom.

Competencies 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, and 13

Artifact 1 - Mathematics Exam

Competency 5 and 7

This is a math exam that I had the chance to explain in front of the class to the students. Afterwards I handed them the exams and helped them with their questions. I found it very important and interesting to see that the students who needed more support (adapted) had the same exam as the other students. However, that version had less questions. I found it very nice because they do no stand out from the others by having a different exam. For example, looking from a student to another you would not really see that one student had an adapted version of the exam. I also think that catering for students in need is very important for their success. Therefore, I was very happy  to see this exam and how it was made. With this exam, I also sat down and helped a student with a learning disability. I helped him for the entire exam by asking him questions and guiding him through the evaluation. At the end he was so grateful for my help. It made me feel extremely fulfilled.

Artifact 2 - General Knowledge Board

Competency 1, 8

Peripheral learning!

This is a general knowledge board that I saw in my CT's classroom. The board includes the names and the description of famous people throughout history for various different things. Some are important philosophers, scientists, politicians, artists, actors... I found this idea extremely smart. Students would go read the description of these people when they would wait in line in front of the door since this is where it is placed at. My cooperating teacher would also change the pictures every week so that her scholars could learn about many different people. I find this very interesting because it teaches them facts that they would not necessarily learn in school and that they would probably not search on their own. Also, general knowledge is very important, this is definitely something I want to do in my future classes.

Where am I from?

Who am I?

Do I have a job?

Why did I want to go into teaching?
